Come celebrate the new year with Kanazawa Fire Department! This event features the firefighters of Kanazawa performing the Kaga Tobi (加賀鳶梯子登り), a form of acrobatics on ladders, and a test of strength and endurance–braving the cold in nothing but loincloths and spraying each other with fire hoses.
This event is so famous that there is a Ishikawa-only Kaga Tobi Hello Kitty phone strap, so be sure to go see it!

Kanazawa Castle Park, Shinmaru Square
Take the bus bound for “Kenrokuen shita” (兼六園下) from Kanazawa Station (East Gate bus-boarding area #3; West Gate bus-boarding area #4); get off at Kenrokuen-shita and walk for 2 minutes to Kanazawa Castle (金沢城).
Leah Zoller is a second-year CIR in Anamizu and the editor of this blog. She went to the festival last year–it was freezing cold and pouring rain but totally worth it!
