6.9 Earthquake in Okinawa

First off, Ishikawa didn’t feel the earthquake, and we’re not in any tsunami warning areas, so no need to block up phone lines calling us to check.

This morning (Feb. 27th, 2010) at 5:31am there was a 6.9 earthquake 10km deep near Okinawa (which felt like a 4.0 near the Okinawa Airport and nearby cities like Naha).  There are tsunami warnings out for the coasts of Okinawa, with waves expected to be around 2 meters high a half meter high (as of 6:30am).

You can see more information at the Japan Meteorological Agency with information about the epicenter of the earthquake.   This is the link to the tsunami warning information, in case you want it.

I hope everyone is safe down in Okinawa, but as far as those of us within Ishikawa, we’re safe and hopefully sleeping soundly (unlike a certain JET with a very concerned mother).
