Opera in Kanazawa: Mimi-Nashi Houichi

If you’re an opera junkie like I am, you know how hard it is to see one in Ishikawa. However, for one night only, the limited run of the Mimi-Nashi Houichi 耳なし芳一 opera will be in Kanazawa.

“Mimi-Nashi Houchi” (“Houichi the Earless”) is one of the stories from Lafcadio Hearn’s (aka Koizumi Yakumo 小泉 八雲) Kwaidan, a collection of Japanese traditional horror stories. You can read “Mimi-Nashi Houichi” here.

I’ve personally never seen an opera in Japanese or written by a Japanese librettist, so I’m really looking forward to this exclusive operatic experience.

The easiest way to get tickets is to search for events in Kanazawa on March 10 at a convenience store ticket machine. The listing is “オペラ耳なし芳一.”
