Recently I decided to cook one of my favourite Japanese foods, Okonomiyaki

There are two styles, the more common Osaka (Kansai) style and the less common but also delicious Hiroshima style. The main difference is that Osaka styles mixes its ingredients while Hiroshima layers its ingredients.
There are other variants such as mixing Okonomiyaki with noodles called modanyaki, and Negiyaki is a thinner variation of okonomiyaki made with a great deal of scallions (spring onions).
Today we will be talking about making Okonomiyaki at home. Since when making something for the first time it is good to start with a very simple recipe I decided to use this recipe i found online. Here is the website, complete with some pictures.
Okonomiyaki is often called Japanese Pizza as it looks vaguely like a pizza but also because it can be made with a wide variety of toppings. So feel free to experiment 🙂
The great things about this food is that it is very easy to cook and uses very simple ingredients in its base.
Tips on cooking Okonomiyaki.
+ Be patient. Wait until one side is well done (a light to medium brown) before flipping it.
+ Cook at a low to medium heat.
+ Once you know how to make a basic Okonomiyaki try to be a little more adventurous and experimental. Like a pizza it is a very versatile food.
Most of the basic ingredients you will be very familiar with, cabbage, eggs, flour and water. The japanese ingredients are very easy to find at most supermarkets. if you don’t have a lot of Japanese you can either say they name of the food and they will probably show you but if you want to be polite try saying (Name of ingredient) wa doko des ka. You may have to ask for a smaller amount of some ingredients as many basic Japanese ingredients are sold in large bags but that should not be very difficult to find. (That or you could buy a big bag and do a lot of Japanese cooking.)
Okonomiyaki restaurants are widespread around most of Japan so if you would like to experience it before trying to make it yourself in the kitchen, that shouldn’t be difficult.
